The City's Glowworms

Glowworms is actually one word! Now I know...

In the rain
I sit
behind the glass.
Watching the lights dance,
and SNAP!
the city's glowworms are caught.

Going Up, Going Down

I don't like going up to Genting Highlands for a reason. It's because of two words...

Motion sickness.

Ever since I was a kid, going for piano classes, throwing up when we reached the shopping mall where my mom usually parked her car in was practically a ritual. What a way to start the day, eh?

Thing is, we didn't even really go into the highlands, just the foot of the hills. My uncle drove us for 1 hour plus just to go to this place called Garden View, or Grand View, to eat. Of course, I puked on the way... I think he forgot what kind of car he's driving. It's been awhile since the last time.

Better never, than ever. If that makes any sense...

But the view was really grand (if it really is the name of the place). There's a mini farm at the back of the restaurant named (what do you know!) Mini Farm, with a small natural stream snaking lazily through it.

And the food really is good. No close up pictures here. Just take my word for it. After eating, my cousins and I just walked around the place while the 'adults' cleaned up the rest of the food. There were a few spots that I personally loved.

Some might say ew... Yes, it's fungus. But that's life. I'd show you the explosion of tiny pink flowers that were there, but I found this more interesting. Haha!

The path through the beds. Follow the weathered brick road, they said.

I didn't realize how huge the leaves were until she stood there.

Definitely will visit again. I like the green, the fresh air and the food too! There's another place in Malaysia to just sit down and relax, but those with a weak stomach have to prepare to get there.

Me: Look over there in the mountains...

Shaun: It's so foggy.

That's the vocabulary of a 6 year old, people...

A Post-It Christmas

Mom hosted a Christmas party at S & P. So, sis and I made another Big Art Attack. She was like, "There's this giant wall of post-its at Sunway Pyramid..."

Ding! Had a 'Light bulb' moment.

A Post-It Christmas tree! We took the whole day just to stick and shape the tree... Even my cousin came over to help out. Used three coloured post-its even though the pack had 4 types. Too much colour would have just been an eyesore.

We asked a few kids to write some short notes and wishes on them. Overall, the wall looked good at night with the spotlight on it. And nothing fell! Thanks to the power of double-sided tape, mostly...

Turning Old Levis into a Work of Art

My artsy fartsy friend Liyana has done it again!

She's holding classes at the Levis stores in KLCC and The Gardens, Midvalley to share ideas on reusing old jeans. Think, cool pouches and gifties. It's okay if you've never sewn a button in your life (confession here...), it can be the time to learn!

Sad to say, I'm busy today and tomorrow... But if you people have the time during this weekend, head on to the following venues!

Levi’s® Store @ Suria KLCC, KL
( 26 Dec, 3pm-6pm)

Levi’s® Flagship Store @The Gardens,Mid Valley City,KL
(27 Dec, 3pm-6pm)

Cheese is a Fruit

 ~The Ladies~

The 'Gone Fishing' post didn't post itself as scheduled...

Back from Gopeng camp. To summarize everything in short (because my whole family is here for Christmas; 10 uncles+aunts and 14 cousins), it was AWESOME.

I *heart* Camp Yuber~

I know I use that word awesome a lot like I have not much of a vocabulary, but I just have to use it here. I learned so much about myself and people. It's totally not what I expected.

Why?

Do you remember your own school camp? Where the atmosphere is so tense, you feel like running away, and they give you long lectures in those crowded open air halls to 'build character' but just didn't give a damn. The activities, you feel that they are pointless and everyone just stuck with the same people. And the indifferent looks on the facilitators just make you want to spit in their face...

After crossing the river

This was NOT like that at all.

It was one of those rare moments where I actually cared to listen and learn. And one of the few times when you can put the word fun and learning in the same sentence. I met loads of cool people, strangers in the beginning, but we sort of bonded like a family towards the end of the 5 days.

The crossed arms and 'what the hell am I doing here?' faces just got wiped off as the days passed. It's really a different sort of connection. I do want to stay in touch with this group of amazingly spirited people.

More pictures here.

And the activities and info are all up here.

Your Cat-Fish is Served

There's no Internet connection in Gopeng...

This new posting feature is awesome! You can actually schedule posts. :D

So I've already finished this piece a few hours before I left for Gopeng. Redid some of the details because they didn't come out well after it was scanned in. Then again, little details on drawings always go missing when they are scanned in.

It's a little sloppy because I was rushing. Bah!! But I think the reef parts came out okay. I chose rough card stock on purpose because of the texture. Some of the highlights and shading on the cat-fish disappeared. Bah again! Done with Faber-Castell colour pencils while listening to the music of Ella Fitzgerald.

I've never done an underwater scene before.

The original is already half way across this continent and making it's way to Canada. I do hope it'll reach it's destination safely.

Draw Your Mind: #10

Chet - The calm, The knowing, The scholarly.

One of the smarty-pants in class. His knowledge of traditional herbs and meds is impressive. Well, his dad owns a Chinese herb shop but still... He told the class once that he'll go to China and study to become a real sensei. That's sort of cool. I mean, other people want to be a neurosurgeon or a lawyer; you know, the conventional.

I do hope he'll get there. Most of my classmates will. There shouldn't be any 'Ifs' when a person wants to achieve their dreams.

By the way, I'm going to Gopeng tomorrow and will be back on the 20th. Until then, don't be naughty, children. :D
